History
The history of the Zanetti family is a part of the ancient and noble Venetian tradition of trade.
As far back as 1700 the Zanettis travelled frequently to the Indies and the Orient to trade in spice and coffee, a delicious drink introduced into Europe by the Venetians from the sixteenth century onwards.

Mokarabia has its roots in this centuries-old experience of selecting and importing the best types of coffee on the world market and, by virtue of this ancient coffee culture that had developed over the centuries, the Zanetti family decided to stake everything on the quality of the product: Mokarabia in fact takes pride in a particularly meticulous process of selecting and purchasing raw materials in order to offer those who opt for Mokarabia the opportunity to savour the highest quality coffee blends and the most intense aromas and flavours.

Zanetti stands for product quality backed by a solid tradition and culture, also confirmed by the name Mokarabia in which much of coffee’s history is encapsulated. Mocha was in fact the most important port in what is now Yemen, then Arabia Felix, where, according to a fascinating mesh of history and legend, the coffee plant that had always grown wild in Ethiopia was first cultivated as a crop.

Introduced into the Arabian Peninsula in the early decades of the fourteenth century, it spread to the rest of the world thanks to the Arabs. Moka, with a "k", then became the name of one of the best types of coffee cultivated in Arabia. It is not by accident that "moka" is also the name of the most common type of coffee machine in Italian households.

The coffee-roasting company Mokarabia was established in Milan in 1950 with the aim of creating high-quality coffee blends to be launched onto the coffee bar market. In just a few years the brand expanded throughout Italy, and in the Seventies it was taken over by Mario Zanetti.

In the year 2000, Mokarabia S.p.A was created through a merger of the historic Milan brand with Caffè Roversi 1882 of Bologna and Caffè Ruffo of Padua, companies that were already part of the group headed by Mario Zanetti. Thus the company acquired an international dimension.
